APABI Contributes to Global Dialogue on the Future of Banking at WCBI 2026

APABI was honored to participate in the 25th World Conference of Banking Institutes (WCBI), held from 16–18 June 2026 in St Andrews, Scotland. We extend our congratulations to the Chartered Banker Institute (CBI) on the successful hosting of this landmark event, which also celebrated the Institute’s 150th anniversary.

Bringing together banking leaders, educators, and professional bodies from around the world, WCBI 2026 explored how the banking profession must evolve in response to rapid technological change, shifting workforce expectations, and the growing importance of trust and responsible leadership.

APABI proudly joined the conference alongside five member institutes—the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers (HKIB), Indian Institute of Banking & Finance (IIBF), Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB), Bankers Institute of the Philippines (BAIPHIL), and Taiwan Academy of Banking and Finance (TABF)—to contribute Asian perspectives to global discussions on professional banking standards and workforce development.

APABI representatives played active roles in key sessions. Ms. Shirley G. Felix, President of BAIPHIL, participated in the panel discussion Shaping the Global Banking Workforce, while Ms. Carrie Leung, CEO of HKIB, Mr. Deepak Lalla, CEO of IIBF, and Dr. Paul C. D. Lei, Chairman of TABF, representing the APABI Board, joined the fireside chat Consistency without Uniformity: A Global Compact for Professional Banking.

The discussions underscored a shared global priority: ensuring that banking professionals remain future-ready while upholding the highest standards of competence, ethics, and public trust. As artificial intelligence, digital innovation, and new societal expectations continue to reshape the industry, international collaboration will be essential in building a resilient and trusted banking profession.
