Dear APABI members:
This is the final email newsletter prior to the September 22 conference in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. We look forward to seeing everyone, whether in-person or virtually!
Many member countries are sensitive to the US economy, and trade is one of the most important channels. Will the US be guided by a philosophy of "near-shoring" or "friend-shoring?" From an American perspective, these two terms are similar, but the difference between them includes most of Asia. This debate deserves follow-up attention.
Many of our members have held training programs relevant to the theme of the conference: "Re-shaping the banking sector in the post-pandemic era." The future of work is a highly relevant topic for all members, and the Chartered Bankers Institute (CBI) in the UK held a seminar last month on the topic. Meanwhile, programming skills will become increasingly important, and the Institute of Banking & Finance (IBF) has been very good about preparing bankers for this trend.
All of these issues will receive further discussion in Mongolia in September. Make sure to finalize your plans soon, if you haven't already!
Sincerely, Hank C.C. Huang
