MESSAGE FROM EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
I want to congratulate the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance on their successful hosting of the APABI Meeting & Conference in November.

Regulation shapes the financial industry across an ever-enlarging scope of issues, and compliance takes up the majority of our training time. This issue of APABI Focus highlights several of these areas, both old and new. One area of growing concern involves operational risk - a category which is not exactly cybersecurity, and not credit risk either, but perhaps a hybrid with characteristics of both. This will become increasingly relevant as the world becomes more ever more turbulent, with ransomware as a typical case.
Climate risk, meanwhile, has been a recurring theme for the past several years, but how much of it is being driven externally by regulators, versus by the markets themselves? In the video interview you can see below, Giles Cuthbert of CBI says that the answer has a lot to do with the country and the regulatory culture, reflecting a nuanced understanding of a complex topic.
I hope everyone had a great holiday season, and I look forward to a fruitful 2025 and to our next opportunity for exchange!
Regards,
David Stinson
